Sawasdee Bangkok
In Thai, Sawasdee is a customary greeting that could mean either hello or goodbye. The country's capital, Bangkok, is famous for its hospitality while also notorious for its nightlife and recent political turmoil. It is the dichotomy of these two words that, when combined, make the title of this omnibus film, so fitting. Magical, contemplative, honest, bittersweet and funny, the film is as much a paean to the city as a probe into its contradictions and rich tapestry of life.
Four talented Thai filmmakers give their take on Bangkok: Sightseeing by Wisit Sasanatieng (Tears of the Black Tiger, Citizen Dog); Bangkok Blues by Aditya Assarat (Wonderful Town); Pi Makham by Kongdej Jaturanrasmee (Midnight, My Love) and Silence by Pen-ek Ratanaruang (Last Life in the Universe, Nymph).
